Treating a Wound

What To Do If You Are Experiencing Foot Pain

Foot pain can be caused by a number of different reasons. You may have suffered an injury, you could have issues with falling arches, or your arches may be too high. You may also have issues with a bunion or an ingrown toenail. If you have foot pain, there are a number of things you can do to help alleviate your foot pain. A visit to the podiatrist can also help get you a diagnosis and the right treatment. Read on for a few things you may be able to do to help with your foot pain.

Wear Proper Fitting Shoes

You need to wear the right pair of shoes for your feet. Your shoes should be the right fit for your feet, and they should have enough cushion and support for your feet. Your shoes can wear out quickly even if they still look nice, they may not offer you the right support necessary for your feet. If you haven't updated your shoes in a while, you need to do so. Investing in insoles may also help your feet if you aren't able to update your shoes just yet. If your shoes are worn out around the ankles, you need to invest in new shoes. An unsupported ankle can result in a twisted ankle.

Stretch Your Feet

You should stretch your feet often to help prevent foot pain and to help prevent injuries. Stretch your feet before you work out, or before you get up and move for a long day. Stretch your feet by pressing a foot into the wall and allowing your body weight to press into the foot and stretch the arch. Repeat on the other foot. Calf raises can also help stretch your feet and your Achilles tendon.

Rest Your Feet

Take the time throughout the day to rest your feet. Elevate your feet after a long day to relieve pain and help reduce swelling. Relax your feet daily and allow your feet the time they need to rest and prevent further injury or issues to your feet. Soak your feet in a foot bath with Epsom salts to alleviate pain and swelling as well.

If you have pain in your feet, you need to make an appointment with the podiatrist for the right diagnosis and the proper treatment for your foot condition. Use the information above to help you prevent injuries or foot concerns and to alleviate pain.

About Me

Treating a Wound

Several years ago, my father-in-law underwent surgery to repair damage to his intestines caused by Crohn’s disease. Unfortunately, during the surgery, my father-in-law sustained nerve damage to both of his feet. Recently, this nerve damage caused him to suffer a painful open wound on his left foot. Because his general practitioner didn’t know what to do about the wound, he sent my spouse’s father to a podiatrist. This professional recommended my father-in-law wear a cast on his foot until the wound completely healed. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common ways podiatrists can treat foot injuries and help you manage foot pain.
